THE ROUTE OF ANCIENT BRIDGES
Length: 14,2 km
Directionality: andata e ritorno
Travel mode: on foot, bike, horse
Total ascent: 828 m

Description: It is a route that runs along what was an important east-west route "via Traversa" which connected the Tyrrhenian Sea with the Adriatic. The importance of this route is confirmed by the presence of numerous castles, ancient bridges and pavements which certainly also make it one of the most important routes for the local connection between Casentino and Valdarno. Today it is possible to follow this marked path in a bidirectional way, you can start from the Crocina Pass or from the town of Villa (also from the Mulino locality near the bridge over the Bonano torrent) and have the possibility of making small loops to return to the starting point, taking advantage of the other marked routes of the Transhumance project. The route passes the remains of four wonderful bridges of medieval origin: Ponte sul Torrente Bonano (ruins), Ponte di Annibale (ruins), Ponte di Sasso (standing and passable) and the Ponte sul fosso di Querceto (standing but not passable ). Along the entire route you can sometimes admire the original stone pavements, especially near the Annibale Bridge and between Pontenano and Passo della Crocina. There is the possibility of making a variant to pass through the hamlet of Pieve Pontenano.
