Historic villages and rural territories of the Casentino as a laboratory for creativity and innovation

The REACT research tackles the issue of inland areas through a strongly interdisciplinary approach that, thanks to the concept of cultural landscape, integrates the different dimensions of the problem into a comprehensive vision: settlements and architectural features, cultivated landscapes and natural systems, community practices, and experiences.

The research focuses on a specific cultural landscape in Tuscany: the Casentino, the first valley crossed by the Arno River.

The aim of the research is to enhance the available heritage and human resources and to define strategies and actions to generate territorially compatible development processes from an ecological and environmental perspective, socially inclusive, economically sustainable, and based on the active and aware participation of local communities.
